Turun yliopiston luomupiiri, the University of Turku’s ”organic food circle”, is an organization that promotes the use of organic products among the students and staff of the University of Turku, and hopes to increase the popularity of organic products and environmentally friendly thinking.

Luomupiiri’s main activity is an organic buying club. Each month, Luomupiiri offers its members the opportunity to purchase locally produced organic food. A few times per year, Luomupiiri also orders organic products that are not produced in Finland. By purchasing as a group directly from the producers, Luomupiiri members enjoy lower prices on organic products.

Luomupiiri is run by volunteers. The executive board takes responsibility for managing the orders and for the administration of the organization, but each member is asked to help out on pick-up day at least once a year. The membership fee, currently €4 (members of TYY) or €8 (others) per year, is used to cover administrative expenses such as rent, bank service fees and phone bills.

Luomupiiri is a sub-organization of the Student Union of the University of Turku, and any member of the student union can join. The executive board is occasionally able to grant membership to interested people who do not belong to the student union, but at least 1/2 of the organization’s membership must always be student union members. It should also be noted that the product list and order form is currently available only in Finnish.
